Bank holiday and festival dates in India 2004

NOTE: We have now added a page with this year's public holiday & festival dates.

Following are the dates of bank holidays and festivals as announced by the Himachal Government and published by the Hindustan Times on 22 October 2003. Most of the holidays listed apply to the whole of India, but some of them are specific to Himachal Pradesh. Dates marked with * are restricted holidays, which means that government employees can take any two of these. All other dates are gazetted holidays.

It's incomprehensible that Indians should suggest that India has "not very many" bank holidays, but, amazingly, there are those who believe India is a little hard done by. Odd, since the list below is almost certainly larger than the entire list of national holidays in all EU countries combined.
