| The happy couple: Surender and
Veena on the third day of their wedding. Once the marriage
celebrations are over, the groom's special head dress,
or 'sera', will be kept by a relative, Surender is not

Photo slide show: The marriage of our friends
Surender and Veena combined the best of traditional and modern Indian
weddings in that it was an "arranged love marriage" as friends frequently
termed it. The bride and bride groom had known each other for a year
since the marriage (or shaadi in Hindi) was arranged by their parents.
We attended the third day of the wedding in Dawara village for the
conclusion of religious ceremonies conducted by the family pandit
(priest), the huge meal and the most energetic dancing we have ever
seen in the Kullu Valley. It was great fun; thank you, Surender and
Veena. Wishing you a long and happy marriage.See also the wedding
gallery for more info about the individual days of a three day
wedding celebration. |
