Photo gallery & slide show. Around 70 percent of India's population still live in rural areas. For some, farm work is subsidiary to their main income, but for many agriculture is the main source of livelihood or food for the family. While in states like the Punjab, agriculture is highly mechanised, in many places field work has changed little in generations and much of the work is done by hand, or, for example, using bullocks for ploughing fields.
