Just
after crossing into Karnataka from Goa, and passing through
the chain of hills that divides the states on a short and
tortuous stretch of NH4 (possibly tarmaced hundreds of years
ago by the look and feel of it, destroyed by thousands of
chunky Tata trucks), there is a turnoff to the right towards
Karwar. This - not that well maintained - minor road, which
follows the line of the dividing hills, passes occasional
villages and chai stalls nestled in the idyllic landscape
and makes a beautiful drive of about 100 km, coming out on
NH17 just north of Karwar. Between the villages of Supa and
Khumbharvada, north of Kadra, is a small view point over the
vast area of the Kalinadi reservoir marked with "Nature
like a kind and Smiling mother. lends herself to our dreams
and cherishes our fancies." It is part of the 150 MW
Kadra Dam power project, the huge arificial lake area is truly
a breathtaking sight.
